Venture Builder vs. Accelerator: Why We Chose the Harder Path

By Anton Marrero

When we designed the Intecrator program with EY, we deliberately chose the venture builder model over a traditional accelerator. The distinction matters enormously.

Accelerators give startups advice and connections over 3-4 months. The founders do the work, and the accelerator takes a small equity stake for access to mentors and demo day. It is efficient but shallow.

Venture builders co-create the company. We embed our people — engineers, designers, business development professionals — directly into the startup. We share operational infrastructure. We do not just advise; we build alongside the founders.

The trade-off is clear: venture building is slower, more resource-intensive, and requires deeper commitment from both sides. But the outcomes speak for themselves. Our venture-built companies have higher survival rates, reach product-market fit faster, and attract follow-on funding at better terms.

The reason is simple: startups fail from execution gaps, not idea gaps. A venture builder closes those gaps in real time.
